Addressing Pet Pain

Safe Anesthesia & Effective Pain Medication

Pain Management at Greece Animal Hospital

The veterinary team at Greece Animal Hospital is dedicated to the compassionate care of your pets. We work to manage or eliminate pet pain in every situation, providing comfort and relief to sick, injured, and surgical patients.

Preventing Pain

Protect your pets from unnecessary pain with this simple three-point plan:

1. Regular wellness care keeps pets healthy and comfortable with exams, vaccines, parasite control, and testing for early detection of health problems.

2. Preventive dental care reduces the risk of infections, gum disease, and damaged teeth.

3. Appropriate nutrition and exercise help prevent obesity, joint issues, and heart disease.

Preventing the pain of disease and chronic conditions enhance our pets’ comfort and longevity while minimizing veterinary expenses for pet owners.

Hidden Pain

Many pets will hide their pain, masking symptoms of illness or injury. Our veterinarians and staff are focused on identifying and relieving your pet’s pain quickly and completely. Symptoms of pain in dogs and cats include lethargy, loss of appetite, hiding, restlessness, panting, excessive licking or biting a body part, behavioral changes such as aggression acting out, or refusing to play, and vocalization such as whimpering or yowling.

Any sudden or concerning change in behavior may also indicate pain, including withdrawal and aggression. All pets demonstrating behavioral changes, unusual symptoms, or those that have experienced trauma should be seen by your veterinarian as soon as possible for a complete examination.

Safe Pain Control: During & After Surgery

General anesthesia is the standard of care for most veterinary surgeries. Our surgical patients are closely monitored with Doppler blood pressure, EKG, blood oxygen levels, and continuous human monitoring throughout any procedure.

Post-op pain management for all surgical procedures is tailored to the needs of each patient. Pain control may include injectable or oral medications, pain patches, or other approaches to ensure your pet’s comfort during recuperation.
