Radiography, or X-ray technology, creates images using electromagnetic radiation. These X-rays pass through the body and generate an image, either on film or digitally on a computer monitor.

Our veterinarians use X-rays to examine bones and internal organs. This imaging technique is beneficial when we suspect traumatic injuries, evaluate and monitor broken bones, identify tumors or cancer within the body, or look for foreign objects.

Modern digital X-ray imaging offers exceptional detail, especially useful in veterinary dental exams.

Veterinary X-rays are quite safe when used properly. However, an agitated or suffering patient may require sedation to capture clear, precise images.

Ultrasound Imaging

Ultrasound imaging employs high-frequency sound waves to create either a moving image or still shot via a computer monitor. A transponder is moved gently across the patient’s skin to generate a live view of the internal organs. The ultrasound exam typically requires no sedation, is painless, and is non-invasive.

Ultrasound technology is used to evaluate the chest and abdominal organs, heart function, and in diagnosing and monitoring pregnant animals. Since ultrasound produces no radiation, it is safe for delicate tissue and developing fetuses.

This imaging technique is beneficial when viewing lumps or masses, diagnosing possible organ damage, monitoring pregnancies, and examining the heart. It is also useful in guiding the surgeon during biopsies and other procedures.
